Relocating to a new home can be quite an exciting milestone in one’s life. Safe Ship Moving Services discusses strategies to follow to protect furniture during a move

Large furniture pieces like bookshelves, tables and beds have to be disassembled before packing them for a move.  This shall make them much easier to handle and transport. One should start by removing the detachable parts of the furniture, like table legs and bed frames.  All the bolts, screws and other small parts should be carefully kept in a labelled container or bag.  This would help make sure that one does not lose these pieces and the furniture can be reassembled easily at the new home. It can be a good idea to take photos or draw diagrams of the furniture prior to disassembling it, in order to help with reassembly later.

To protect upholstered furniture from stains, dirt and damage during the move, it is critical to properly wrap it. One should start by vacuuming the furniture in a thorough manner to remove any dust or debris. The furniture should additionally be covered with a protective layer like plastic covers or bags to keep the surface clean and dry during the move.  One may even choose to wrap the furniture in furniture pads or blankets for extra padding and protection. The protective layers on the furniture have to be secured with packing tape to see to it that stays in place during transit. Markers can be used to label the wrapped furniture, indicating any special handling instructions and the room it belongs to.

Wooden furniture is prone to scratches during a move. Certain steps have to be undertaken to protect such furniture. Firstly, one must dust off the wooden furniture and clean it with a gentle wood cleaner. The furniture should subsequently be wrapped in furniture pads or blankets. This padding has to be secured with ropes or packing tape to keep it in place. The team of Safe Ship Moving Services mentions that people must avoid directly wrapping wooden furniture with plastic as it may trap moisture and cause damage to the furniture.  People moving valuable, antique wooden furniture may use custom-built wooden boxes or specialized wooden crates for added protection.

Extra care has to be taken to prevent damage when packing furniture with glass or fragile items. One must remove any glass panels, shelves or tabletops from the furniture prior to the packing process. These glass items should be wrapped individually with packing paper or bubble wrap. One must secure the wrapping with tape, and then place them in a sturdy box. Any empty space within the box should be filled with packing peanuts or crumpled paper to prevent movement.
